One of the most experienced kitesurfers in The Great Downwinder is Mauritian instructor and all-round waterman, Nico Kux who introduced the sport to the Indian Ocean Island in 1998.

Shortly after taking the first kite to Mauritius he opened the island’s first kiteschool, and has featured in numerous international film and magazine coverages of kiting activities and Mauritius-specific kitesurfing.

Nico’s kiting skills are legendary in Mauritis, and the country’s national airline, Air Mauritius is flying him to Australia to take part in The Great Downwinder... and is also giving a prize of a return air ticket from either Sydney, Melbourne or Perth* to Mauritius for the Australian kitesurfer who ranks highest in our rider opinion poll. .

AND AS WELL, a lucky Australian voter in the competition will also WIN A HOLIDAY FOR TWO TO MAURITIUS flying Air Mauritius from either Sydney, Melbourne or Perth*, and lessons with Nico Kux.

International voters will be in the running to win a Camelback back pack, a Gath Helmet and Custom Monkeykite.

*NOTE that the winner will be responsible for getting themselves to/from Sydney, Melbourne or Perth if they do not live in one of those cities; accommodation in Mauritius is not included in the prize, but a hotel or resort to best suit the winner can be booked at best-possible-price through Air Mauritius Holidays.
