Ben Kearney is very involved in protecting the environment in his local community, Coles Bay. In fact he won an Australian of the year award for his efforts to ban the use of plastic shopping bags which damage the environment and kill our wildlife.
Ben does a lot of work with Planet Ark in Sydney who helped with banning Plastic shopping bags in his town.
Planet Ark works to show people the many ways they can reduce their day to day impact on the environment - at home, at work and in the community. Planet Ark runs a number of environmental campaigns such as National Tree Day, 'Cartridges 4 Planet Ark', the successful national Plastic Bag reduction campaign and Planet Ark's daily Reuters World Environment News - the most comprehensive source of environmental news on the Net.
Ben will be riding kites with Planet Ark logos to raise awareness of their aactivities. |

JEB has decided to use The Great Downwinder to promote the cause of www.wildaid.org. www.wildaid.org strives to stop the world wide illegal wildlife trade for good. Having witnessed the terrible legacy of this trade in parts of China, Jeb will be riding kites in The Great Downwinder displaying the Wildaid logo and during the trip, he will be raising money on a 'per kilometre' ridden basis.
